Dancer Series Statement
This is a series of abstract paintings depicting energy inspired by various styles and performances of dancers. Dances can be structured or lead by impromptu movement, and as a painter I move my body and use my arm rhythmically to paint on the canvas mimicking dance movements. Dancers use their bodies to express feelings and emotions. My painting process is very similar to a dancer; it involves physical movement, breath, and expression to create life.
My color palette is black and white in order to express a raw imagery. I use canvases and brushes of different shapes and sizes to indicate the passion of performance with its various energies. I paint organic lines and geometric shapes to express diverse movements of the body. Additionally, using splashes of gooey paints on top of the canvas I portray bursts of passion.
