Abstract Self-portraits
This series focuses on reflection of my internal self emotion painted during Covid-19 pandemics. From the pandemic, shelter in place order, police brutality, to wild fires in America, I create these pieces to share how it is affecting me personally. Being an immigrant from Seoul, South Korea who moved to the United States when I was 16, I have been questioning my identity in the states since my arrival to this current unpredictable and confusing time. I depict what I desire within myself, and push the feeling onto canvas. My paintings show raw, inspiring, expressionistic abstract inner self-portraits to show how these experiences have impacted me through mixed media, bold colors, geometric and organic shapes, and splashes of paints.
